The year 1987 saw the birth of the UGC Human Resource Development Centre, a source of inspiration in the system of Higher Education at the Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur.

The pioneering zeal in the nascent stage of the HRDC Jabalpur firmly established, on a firm foundation, an effective and efficient institution producing excellent results and doing yeoman service in the field of higher education. Today with 99 orientation pragrammes, 225 refresher courses, several principal meets, workshops, seminars and socially relevant surveys, it has produced more than 10500 motivated, informed and trained teachers with constant endeavour to create a culture of learning and self improvement amongst them so that it becomes an integral part of the educational system at the tertiary level.

In agreement with Erric Hoffwer, that ‘in a time of drastic change, it is the learners who survive; the ‘learned’ find themselves fully equipped to live in a world that no longer exists’, our HRDC although having many accomplishments to its credit, is not resting on its past laurels. Plans are under way to strengthen the research and publication activities and to offer more programmes especially in the areas of Environment, Human Rights, Women’s development and Computer   Applications. Having emerged as one of the major centre of excellence in the academic life of the state and country, it is a stimulating academic platform for shaping a healthy academic interaction amongst the teachers and thinkers.
